Logan Brown on Cuba Street is still the benchmark special-occasion dinner in the capital, in a 1920s banking chamber, with Friday lunch as the easier way in. For the best cooking without the formality, Capitol on Kent Terrace took two hats at the 2025 Cuisine Good Food Awards, and Rita in Aro Valley is the hardest and most rewarding table in the city. Several restaurants that top older Wellington lists have closed: Hiakai shut in March 2024, and Shepherd, Whitebait, Boulcott Street Bistro and Egmont St. Eatery are all gone.
